Description
Acqui Terme is a charming tiny city and comune of Piedmont in northern Italy in the province of Alessandria. The hot sulphur springs have been famous since this was the Roman town of Aquae Statiellae. In 1870 Giovanni Ceruti designed a little pavilion, known as La Bollente, for the spot at the center of the town where the waters bubble up at 75C (167F). The sulphur has powerful therapeutic properties and runs freely. La Bollente, in the middle of the city, is one of the most characteristic places to visit in Acqui Terme. People gather daily, drink and wash their hands and face in the sulfuric scented fountain. They say the water helps cleanse the liver. History is something Acqui Terme is steeped in. The hot, thermal waters of this area were discovered over two thousand years ago by the Romans. You'll also find interesting shops and quaint boutiques. This is an unforgettable small jewel of a city. This was my second visit and definitely a favorite.
