Description
Zelus renardii is an assassin bug. First instar nymphs have been observed to collect a sticky substance from their eggs and rub it on their legs, which improves predation success on flies. It is a 'true" bug from the the family of Hemiptera. Scientific classification Kingdom: Animalia Phylum Arthropoda. Class: Insecta. Order: Hemiptera. Family: Reduviidae. Genus: Zelus. Species: Zelus renardii. Kolenati, 1856. I'm probably the only one who sees it, but there's a face in the upper left front of the rose that mimics the colors in the bug. It's like the bug did a self portrait and saw it's self as a female person. A very beautiful insect.

Great capture Jennie! I did see that the colors on the disrupted part of the rose was the same as the colors of the bug. After reading your Description, I could see the bug's 'face' on the rose. Wow! Congratulations on your feature. F/L

Thanks Morris! Whew! I thought I was the only one who saw the face. It was so obvious to me. I saw the face before the bug. Almost a religious experience. Ha!
