Description
Photograph taken at Central Park in Huntington Beach, Ca. on the tip of the finger of Leslie. She raises Monarch butterflies and releases them at the park. The monarch butterfly is known as Danaus plexippus, which in Greek literally means "sleepy transformation." The name evokes the species' ability to hibernate and metamorphize. Butterflies cannot bite. They do drink through a long tongue called a proboscis that works like an eyedropper to draw up nectar. Like a retractable garden hose, their tongue coils up under the lower lip when not in use.

Wonderful. What I wouldn't give to have a butterfly on my finger. Just fabulous!
