Description
Vieste is an attractive whitewashed town jutting off the Gargano's easternmost promontory into the Adriatic Sea. It's the Gargano capital and sits above the area's most spectacular beach, a gleaming wide strip backed by sheer white cliffs and overshadowed by the towering rock monolith, Scoglio di Pizzomunno. It's packed in summer and ghostly quiet in winter. For years, Vieste was just another fishing village but now its a popular Mediterranean beach destination. Swim and sail in deep-blue water (widely renowned for its purity), or explore the towns fine castle and cathedral. Like the rest of the Puglia area, the beaches are also quite calm and perfect for many activities, and there is enough beach for a nice walk or bike ride. Nighttime is truly special in Vieste Italy. There are small bars in town and larger nightlife in other parts of Gargano and Puglia.
