Description
Photograph taken from my room at the Residenza Hotel on Via Tornabuoni in Florence, Italy of the Palazzo Strozzi del Poeta. In 1463 Luodvico Strozzi came into possession of some homes by Monaldi, adjacent to palazzo Minerbetti and twenty years later he added another. In the 16th century, the existing buildings were unified into a single building. The Palace has this name because he belonged to the Florentine writer Giovanni Battista Strozzi, in the early years of the seventeenth century. Here he used to gather the Accademia degli altered and in 1626, he commissioned the architect Gherardo Silvani to design the facade, completed the work started nearly a century before. The second half of the seventeenth century passed, then from 1760 Ciappi to Baldassarre Suarez, who followed the Giaconi and then to others. Today is owned condominium. The facade of Silvani is a typical example of Florentine Baroque, sober and composed, in the wake of Renaissance architecture. Stands for the canons two floors plus an attic with rectangular Windows. All the architectural elements are in pietra serena on the plaster are clear, as from Florentine tradition. On the ground floor are located four timpanati portals for shops and a large central arched portal, flanked by two columns supporting a balcony above, typical of the architecture of element Silvani. The coat of arms Strozzi is in the middle of the facade, sculpted in relief fluttering ribbons.
