Description
USS Chancellorsville (CG-62)is a Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser in service and active in the United States Navy. The Motto is 'Press on' and currently docked in Seal Beach, California. She is named for the Confederate victory over Union forces under Robert E. Lee at the Battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia. United States Navy ships are rarely named for Confederate victories in the American Civil War. Up until 30 December 2011, the ship was operationally part of Carrier Strike Group Seven. Her current operational assignment is unclear, but as of 2010 she was administratively part of Commander, Naval Surface Forces Pacific. Chancellorsville carries guided missiles and rapid-fire cannons, with anti-air, anti-surface and anti-subsurface capabilities. She also carries two Seahawk Light airborne multi-purpose system (LAMPS) helicopters, focused on anti-submarine warfare.
