Description
Photo of the Porsche Motorsport Muffler Man, a towering fiberglass statue made in the 1960s to promote roadside businesses, was taken while on the west side of the 405 freeway in Carson, California. By chance, 2 red tail hawks were perched on a windy day on his empty rod where a checkered flag use to be. Now a race car driver, he was once a giant golfer standing there for decades, beckoning weary commuters to enjoy a brief round of Executive Golf at the Dominguez Hills Golf Course to soothe the frustration of the daily grind. He disappeared for a while, but Muffler Man was not lost. He was reborn in 2013 as a Porsche Motorsport racer holding a checkered flag. His fireproof suit was stitched by hand in France. It turns out that Porsche, owners of the land, were developing it as the new home of Porsche Motorsports North America and a Porsche Experience Driving Center.
