Bordighera is a town in the Province of Imperia, Liguria (Italy). The city was founded around the 4th century BC by the Ligures. Historically, it has been a favorite winter resort, especially for visitors and retirees from England, and is renowned for its beautiful coast scenery. Known as the City of Palms, its flowers and palms have been well known, with the flowers having been exported and the palms used on Palm Sunday at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and other churches. A museum contains a unique collection of the flora of the Riviera. Scenic seaside Bordighera,just a few miles from the borders of both Monaco and France, floral Bordighera has been a favorite resort destination for British visitors since the 19th century, when Queen Victoria herself was a guest. The town has many lovely gardens an archaeological museum and a lovely old town, but most come for the beach and seafront promenade. Claude Monet lived in Bordighera and painted numerous pictures of the town.
